In depth interpretation of tea beverage bottle packaging market at home and abroad

China's tea beverage started as a carbonated beverage containing tea in the early 1980s, and was almost squeezed out of the market by the impact of foreign beverages such as Coca Cola and Sprite in the mid-1980s. Since 1994, with the increasing popularity of tea drinks in the international market, especially in Japan, the research and development of tea drinks in China has risen again. Domestic scientific research institutes and beverage manufacturers have successively developed and produced many varieties of tea drinks

1. At present, various flavor tea drinks of tea drinks can be roughly divided into two categories from the perspective of taste: one is blended tea drinks (beverages made mainly of tea and mixed with one or more of the ingredients such as fruit juice, sugar, milk, essence, spices, acids, traditional Chinese medicine, coal, and other cyclical industries, which are expected to usher in price rebound and profit return). Second, pure tea drinks (without seasoning ingredients)

according to the classification method of the preliminary draft of the national standard for tea drinks, there are six kinds of tea drinks: tea soup drinks, fruit flavored tea drinks, fruit juice tea drinks, carbonated tea drinks, milk flavored tea drinks and other tea drinks

tea drinks are traditionally called pure tea drinks, which take tea and its extracts as raw materials, add little or no sugar, and maintain the original tea flavor. Suntory sugar free (or low sugar) oolong tea, Tongyi, Master Kang's sugar free (or low sugar) green tea, oolong tea, xurisheng tianzhiqing series tea drinks, tianyidi jasmine tea and other products are its representatives

fruit flavored tea beverage refers to a beverage that takes tea as the main body and is blended with sugar, essence, spices, acids, etc. at present, lemon flavored fruit flavored tea drinks are the most common, such as Master Kang's lemon black tea, unified iced green tea, iced black tea, etc. In Europe and the United States and other regions, the sales situation of peach tea drinks is the best, and there are also tea drinks with apple, green plum and other flavors on the market in China

fruit juice tea beverage refers to a beverage with tea as the main body and mixed with fruit juice, sugar, essence, spices, acids, etc. it is rare in the market at present. Huierkang's early tea family series, such as plum green tea and plum black tea with plum juice, should belong to this category

carbonated tea beverage refers to a tea beverage filled with carbonated gas after dissolving and blending instant tea powder (concentrated tea juice), sugar, essence, spices, acids and other auxiliary materials. Its processing technology draws lessons from the traditional processing method of carbonated drinks and combines the unique flavor characteristics of tea drinks. Xurisheng iced tea is a typical representative of this type of tea beverage

milk tea drinks refer to tea drinks added with tea, milk, sugar, essence and spices, which combine the fragrance of milk and the unique bitter taste of tea, such as unified Maixiang milk tea, vitalo milk tea, Chinese milk tea, etc

other tea drinks include tea drinks with various traditional Chinese medicine ingredients and tea drinks with grain flavor, such as chrysanthemum tea, honeysuckle tea, Babao tea, barley black tea, ginseng oolong tea, etc

2. Various packaging of tea drinks at present

at present, several packaging forms commonly used in the beverage industry are glass bottles, tinplate cans, aluminum cans, sterile aluminum paper composite bags, PET bottles, plastic cans and so on. This paper briefly expounds their application and prospects in tea drinks

2.1 glass bottles

glass bottles are used earlier in the beverage industry, mostly for the packaging of carbonated beverages such as soft drinks and beer. At present, they are also widely used in functional beverages. Its capacity is generally less than 1000ml, with less equipment investment. The material has a flexible, transparent, beautiful, colorful and crystal decorative effect. Its chemical stability is high and it can be used repeatedly. However, there are also some shortcomings, such as low mechanical strength, fragile, heavy weight of unit items, high cost, inconvenient transportation, and easy to burst when the temperature difference is high. Therefore, in recent years, with the rise of PET materials, glass bottles have been less used in other beverages except beer and functional beverages. Due to sterilization conditions, glass bottles are generally only used for the packaging of acidic tea drinks (pH < 4.5), with a shelf life of about 6 months. Some iced tea drinks in foreign countries use this packaging

2.2 tinplate cans

are divided into three piece cans and punching and stretching two-piece cans similar to aluminum cans. Because two-piece cans have special requirements for the stamping and tensile properties of tinplate materials and can making equipment, it is rare in other countries and regions, except that some Japanese manufacturers have production capacity and use such packaging in canned oolong tea, green tea and other beverages. The main specifications of three piece cans include 206, 209 three necked cans and 5133 cans. Three piece can is one of the packaging types widely used by early tea beverage manufacturers. There are four main reasons: first, the investment cost of three piece can filling and sterilization equipment is relatively low; Second, the requirements for tea beverage processing technology are not high. Even if there is a small amount of precipitation in the storage process, it has little impact on the sensory quality of the beverage; Third, the three piece can is almost suitable for the packaging of all kinds of tea drinks and other types of drinks, with good compatibility, saving equipment investment costs; Fourth, the shelf life of products is long, generally up to one to two years. At present, the tea drinks using tinplate cans are mainly part of tea soup drinks and milk tea drinks

2.3 aluminum cans

the main specifications are common 350ml cans. It is mainly used for the packaging of sparkling beverages such as beer and carbonated beverages. At present, it is mainly used in carbonated tea drinks, such as xurisheng iced tea. With the successful research on the technology of filling liquid nitrogen in tea drinks by relevant institutions in Japan, the disadvantage of easy deformation of aluminum cans during sterilization has been solved, and now it is also widely used in the packaging of pure tea drinks such as oolong tea. The cost of filling and sterilization equipment is slightly higher than that of three piece cans, but the price of packaging materials is slightly lower, and the recycling of materials is good. The shelf life of the product can also reach more than one year. However, as the packaging of liquid tea drinks, the technology and equipment of nitrogen filling and sterilization of drinks are high, so the application in tea drinks in China is rare. The rising sun series of tea drinks currently adopts the aluminum cans packaging of nitrogen filling technology

2.4 sterile composite aluminum paper bags

at present, there are mainly Tetra Pak a LFA Laval group in Sweden and konmei bag of pkl packaging system company in Germany. The main specifications of Tetra Pak include Tetra Pak traditional (sterile) bag, Tetra Pak brick (sterile) bag, Tetra Pak house type package, Tetra Pak king and Tetra Pak crown, with capacities ranging from 125ml to 2000ml. Kangmeibao has information between CB5, CB and/H1, which is probably more common than 6 and cb7 series, with a capacity of 150ml to 1100ml, a total of 20 common specifications. At present, Tetra Pak brick aseptic packaging is the most widely used in tea drinks. It is generally used in the packaging of iced tea, fruit flavored tea drinks and mixed wheat tea, such as unified iced black tea, iced green tea, Master Kang lemon black tea, etc. The application of large capacity Tetra Pak (above 375m L) in liquid oolong tea also began to appear. The one-time investment cost of sterile composite aluminum paper wrapped equipment is very high (generally US $500000 ~ 600000), but the cost of packaging materials is cheap, which is only equivalent to about 50% of tin cans. Moreover, the packaging materials are light, the storage space of finished products is small, and the transportation cost is low, which is a better choice for enterprises with strong financial strength. As the packaging of tea drinks, the shelf life of products is generally between 6 months and a year

2.5 PET bottle

pet is polyethylene terephthalate, which is a saturated linear thermoplastic plastic, referred to as linear polyester for short. PET bottles are light in material, high in strength, colorless and transparent, high in surface gloss, glassy in appearance, good in plasticity and mechanical properties, non-toxic and tasteless, and the material cost is moderate (domestic bottle blowing pet pellets are 9000 yuan/ton). In recent years, PET bottles have been widely used in the packaging of carbonated beverages, mineral water and pure water. Because ordinary PET bottles are not heat-resistant and will shrink and deform when the temperature is higher than 65 ℃, there are few non heat-resistant PET bottles used as tea beverage packaging at home and abroad. Because the production process of liquid tea drinks with such packaging requires ultra-high temperature instantaneous sterilization or ultrafiltration filtration bacteria (because the liquid tea drinks are rich in tea polyphenols and other easily reducing substances, ozone sterilization cannot be used), and aseptic filling is carried out below the material temperature of 60 ℃, which requires high technical content and stability of the production line. At present, non heat-resistant PET bottles are mainly tea drinks with tea water separation. The water in the bottle is sterilized by ozone and UV. 1 ~ 2G of cold soluble instant tea powder is sealed in the bottle cap. When drinking, mix the tea water to get a bottle of tea drinks with pure flavor, such as xurisheng Changcai series tea drinks. With the development and production of heat-resistant PET bottles by Japan Nissin ASB Machinery Co., Ltd., which can withstand the filling temperature as high as 95 ℃, PET bottles have been more and more used in the packaging of tea drinks. Its 500ml heat-resistant PET bottle is one of the most widely used tea beverage packaging in China. Among many tea beverage manufacturers in Japan, heat-resistant PET bottle packaging is the most widely used in Oolong tea drinks, mainly because the PET bottle material is transparent, and the internal beverage quality can be observed with the naked eye. However, a small amount of precipitation allowed in the can and Tetra Pak bag will be regarded as the performance of quality deterioration by consumers. Compared with green tea, black tea and other liquid beverages, oolong tea is not easy to precipitate during storage, with little change in color and stability. If PET bottles are used as the packaging materials for black tea and green tea liquid drinks, the problems of precipitation and color change during the storage of tea drinks must be completely solved. At present, the precipitation problem in the storage process of tea based green tea and black tea beverages packaged in heat-resistant PET bottles in China is still one of the perplexing problems for tea beverage manufacturers. In recent years, with the continuous development of high-quality anti precipitation instant tea powder and new processing technology of concentrated tea juice by the manufacturers of instant tea powder raw materials, this problem has been gradually solved

2.6 other plastic bottles

at present, there are mainly polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (BOPP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and composite materials. The reinforced polyethylene bottle made by mixing titanium dioxide into polyethylene material is mainly used for the packaging of milk containing beverages such as fruit milk. Generally, it can withstand high temperature of about 100 ℃ and can be pasteurized directly. However, aluminum foil is generally used for sealing. The packaging has poor oxygen isolation, so it is not suitable to be used as the packaging material of tea drinks. At present, a few domestic tea beverage manufacturers use this kind of packaging, and the product shelf life must be less than 6 months by some means. The color of the beverage is easy to deteriorate during storage (especially green tea). When polypropylene bottles were first introduced, due to its thin wall and poor oxygen isolation, even if the amount of antioxidants was increased, it was difficult to reach the one-year shelf life of tea drinks. Generally, they were only used for flavored tea drinks with low tea ingredients. The new polypropylene bottle developed at present increases the thickness of the bottle wall, that is, increases the amount of polypropylene in a single bottle. At present, it can also be used for the packaging of general tea drinks. PVC bottles are less and less used in beverages because of the safety of the material itself, and PVC packaging is rarely used in tea drinks. Due to its low price, good barrier property and high temperature resistance, composite materials are mostly used in the packaging of soft cans, but the materials themselves have peculiar smell (commonly known as plastic smell) after high temperature sterilization. When used in tea drinks, it is easy to affect the flavor of tea, which is harmful to pure tea drinks
